Meet "Pat"
Do you remember Pat from Saturday Night Live? Well, that's what we had been calling this chicken until a few weeks ago, when he/she became a definite Patrick. We haven't had a rooster in our orders of chicks for many years, so we were actually surprised to get one this time. Not that we will keep him. He's too loud and upsets the hens. But I kind of get a kick out of his crowing - at least for a little while:)
Here are the hens in their enclosed yard. We have some things for them to climb on and my husband digs up the yard occasionally so they can pick at the worms, etc. We let them free-range during the day most of the year. But we can't let them right now; they'd eat all the produce! We give them the peelings, rinds and leaves from the garden and they are very happy chickens. Today, we got the first egg from this year's pullets. Tiny little brown eggs. So now we have white, blue, and brown ones. Love our home grown eggs!

There is nothing that compares to a fresh egg!
It looks as though Patrick rules the roost. He is a very striking looking bird.
Lovely to have your own fresh eggs.

So glad you are enjoying your chickens! Patrick is such a handsome rooster. I know when I finally stop raising chcikens, I will miss hearing the crow of the rooster.
He is a great looking rooster!
He's a handsome rooster!
I love chickens and yours are very pretty, including 'Pat'! he he. (I remember that very funny skit) I wish I could have them, but too many predators here. I will enjoy seeing yours, though. I love listening to hens clucking. A soothing sound. Hugs, xo
How lovely to be able to collect your own hens' fresh eggs! Patrick is a very handsome rooster indeed!
Have a happy week, Cindy!

Oh your chickens look so wonderful. I miss mine so much. I am hoping to maybe get a couple of bantams soon. What will you do with the roo. Do you eat them or give them away?
He's such a pretty boy, but roosters can be so mean. I always wish we could keep some just for looks but the times we have tried they became so aggressive I hated to go in the coop for the eggs!
